Cerebral Spinal Fluid Evaluation in Individuals Who Have Idiopathic Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (INPH)

About this study

The purpose of this study is to further characterize the serum and Cerebral Spinal Fluid (CSF) biomarker profile of idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus, both before and after VP shunt placement, and help differentiate this profile from Alzheimer’s disease.

 

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • ≥ Age 60.
  • Diagnosis of suspected idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus based on International guidelines and Japanese guidelines, with at least gait impairment and response to high volume lumbar puncture.
  • Able to consent.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Clear evidence of concomitant neurodegenerative pathology such as progressive supranuclear palsy, Parkinson’s disease, and/or Alzheimer’s disease.
