A Study to Determine the Differences in Microbiota Composition in Patients With and Without Post-Infection Irritable Bowel Syndrome

About this study

The purpose of this study is to determine differences in microbiota composition in volunteers with and without Rome IV defined Campylobacter jejuni PI-IBS, and to determine differences in peripheral metabolites, proteins and lipids in volunteers with and without Rome IV defined Campylobacter jejuni PI-IBS.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

  1. Inclusion Criteria
    1. Age (years) 18-80
    2. IBS by Rome IV criteria (only for PI-IBS subjects)
    3. No abdominal surgery (except hernia, C-section, hysterectomy, appendectomy, and cholecystectomy)
  2. Exclusion Criteria
    1. History of IBS prior to infection with C. jejuni, IBD (Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis), microscopic colitis, or celiac disease
    2. History of laboratory confirmed gastroenteritis in six months prior to C. jejuni enteritis or since the episode of C. jejuni enteritis.
