A Study to Assess Outcome of Hospitalization for Cirrhosis Patients

About this study

The purpose of this study is to identify clinical parameters that may help to predict clinical outcomes prior to the evolution of the admitting diagnosis for cirrhosis, a very important clinical observation for the long-term. We are not participating in optional blood collection. 

 

 

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Age ≥ 18 years.
  • Cirrhosis or chronic liver disease (defined as FIB-4 > 1.45 or other non-invasive markers that show > F3 fibrosis on outpatient values).
  • Admitted for non-elective reasons.
  • Able to consent or have a legal representative who can consent.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Individuals < 18 years of age.
  • Acute liver failure.
  • Unable to consent.
  • Admitted electively.
  • Life expectancy < 48 hours.
  • Prisoners.
  • HCC without loco-regional control for > 6 months or patients on systemic therapy for Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) currently.
  • COVID-19 diagnosis confirmed during the current admission.
  • Post-TIPS if TIPS is > 6 months prior.
  • Known recent MI (< 6 months) or stroke with residual defects.
