A Study to Evaluate the Effect of Inspiratory Muscle Training on Physiological Function and Clinical Outcomes Following Lung Transplant

About this study

The purpose of this study is to to mechanistically investigate the effect of specific inspiratory muscle training on respiratory function, exercise capacity, health-related quality-of-life, and short-term clinical outcomes in patients after lung transplant.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • All patients who undergo single- or double-lung transplant at Mayo Clinic Florida.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Patients who do not survive the intra-operative period during the transplant surgery.
  • Patients undergoing retransplantation.
  • Patients undergoing multiorgan transplantation.
  • Patients who are not willing to or who are unable to give written informed consent.
