About this study

The purpose of this study is to characterize the contribution of isolated diastolic heart failure to heart failure using active surveillance to measure the plasma levels of brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) among persons with heart failure and to define the prognostic value of BNP in all cases of heart failure.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • All Olmsted County, Minnesota esidents in whom the electronic medical record uses synonyms of heart failure.
  • Based on preliminary data, it is anticipated that the mean age of these subjects will be 76 years old.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Subjects residing outside of Olmsted County, Minnesota.
  • Subjects who have not granted research authorization.
