A Study of the Underlying Physical Characteristics of a Graft Leading to Survival in Liver Transplant

About this study

The purpose of this study is to evaluate genes collected comparing a recipient's serum, a recipient's original liver and the donor liver graft to determine the characteristics of livers that are susceptible versus resistant to recurrent disease, to reduce the likelihood of liver graft failure in the long-term.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria

  • Age 18 and older
  • Has liver disease that warrants liver transplant evaluation
  • Provision of informed consent by patient, responsible next of kin, or individual with medical power of attorney
  • All adult patients presenting for organ transplant evaluation/work-up with cirrhosis as the cause of liver disease, irrespective of race or gender, will be eligible

Exclusion Criteria

  • Has had a prior liver transplant
  • Has any of the following metabolic liver diseases
    • Hereditary hyperoxaluria
    • Glycogen-storage disease
    • Familial amyloidosis
