Ultrasonography Assessment of Gastric Volume in Healthy Volunteers after Ingestion of Clear Liquids and Solid Food

Overview

About this study

The study will assess whether protein-containing clear liquids have similar gastric emptying time as carbohydrate-based clear liquids. Some commercially available beverages have been advertised as clear liquids yet contains whey protein isolates. These protein-containing clear liquids can be easily confused as carbohydrate-based clear liquids by the patients. However, the gastric emptying time the protein-containing liquids has not been established. The study will assess specific sonographic characteristics of stomach containing solid food. The study will assess if a novice ultrasonographer is able to reproduce the results of gastric contents and volume as an experienced ultrasonographer.
