A Study to Evaluate Whole Exome Sequencing and Genomic Profiling in Spinal Pathologies

About this study

The purpose of this study is to determine the epigenetics involved in spinal pathologies through the performance of molecular genetic studies that seek to investigate genetic predisposition to neurodegenerative disease. The role of epigenetics in disease progression is increasingly becoming a topic of interest. Understanding how epigenetics influences the expression of genes will be extremely helpful in elucidating causes for the presentation of spine disease as well as the variation in recovery outcomes among this patient population.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Adults age 18 and up.
  • Scheduled to undergo spinal surgery.
  • Able to provide written informed consent
  • Willing to provide a blood specimen as part of this research.

Exclusion Criteria: 

  • Patients under 18 years of age.
  • Patients not scheduled to undergo surgery as part of their standard of care.
