INHERIT Study to Evaluate Proactive Genetic Testing in Cancer Patients

About this study

The goal of this study is to evaluate the integration of cancer genetic testing into a community cancer clinical practice aimed toward patients of various ethnic populations in north Florida including, but not limited to, African Americans, Hispanic/Latino, Native American/Alaskan and Asian, by self-report.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Patients at least 18 years of age.
  • Individuals diagnosed with any solid tumor cancer (stages 1-4) including, but not limited to, gastrointestinal, breast, gynecological, genitourinary, skin, CNS/brain, head/neck, musculoskeletal or cancer of unknown primary; and presenting to Mayo Clinic Embedded Cancer Center at St. Vincent’s Healthcare for clinical management/treatment.
  • Blood collection is feasible (health, access and/or tolerability) for requested blood sample(s). Otherwise saliva samples may be obtained.
  • Individuals have agreed to participate and signed the study informed consent form.

Exclusion Criteria: 

  • Individuals under 18 years of age.
  • Individuals who do not meet study inclusion criteria.
  • Individuals with a hematologic malignancy.
  • Patients who have had prior germline genetic testing involving a 40+ gene panel within the last 24 months at Mayo Clinic or St Vincent’s Healthcare and available for review by the research coordinator at time of consent.
