A Study to Increase Access to Exposure Therapy for Anxiety and Obsessive Compulsive Disorders Using A Low-Cost, Virtual Reality System

About this study

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the randomized controlled mixed methods of a Virtual Reality (VR) exposure therapy system in patients with anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorders.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria: 

  • Children ages seven to 17 with an accompanying parent or guardian;
  • Children enrolled in the Pediatric Anxiety Disorders Clinic treatment program; 
  • Children with a diagnosis of CAD or OCD; and
  • Children who have at least one fear fitting exposures covered by the phase II VR system.

Exclusion Criteria: 

  • Children who have a high likelihood of being lost to follow-up or contact; 
  • Children who are unable to provide good data; 
  • Children who have significant comorbidity that would interfere with participation; or
  • Children who are at heightened risk of self-harm.
