Collection of Term Placenta for Development of Trophoblast Cell Culture

About this study

The purpose of this study is to obtain placenta for the purpose of developing assays to isolate and culture trophoblasts as a cell free fetal DNA (cffDNA) source.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

Pregnant women will be recruited if they meet the following criteria:

  • Healthy women;
  • No known pregnancy complications at the time of enrollment (uncomplicated pregnancy);
  • Ability to provide written informed consent.

Exclusion Criteria: 

  • Women with gestational complications will not be recruited.
  • Women with the following criteria will not be recruited:
    • Known immunodeficiency;
    • Chronic, active viral infections including HIV-1/2, HTLV-1/2, Hepatitis B/C;
    • Known autoimmune disease;
    • Solid organ or transplant recipient;
    • Current smokers (tobacco exposure within 30 days of registration);
    • Conceptions from assisted reproductive technology. Prior Clomid® use is allowed;
    • Multiple current gestations.
