Risk Factors for Pressure Ulcers in Understaffed Pediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care Units in Vietnam

About this study

The purpose of this study will be to 1) determine the risk factors for pressure ulcer development among patients in the pediatric intensive care units in a resource limited hospital and 2) to develop a regulatory protocol to help minimize these risk factors in at-risk patients in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  1. All pediatric patients (ages 0 months to 18 years of age at admission) staying in the Intensive Care Unit
  2. Patients will be analyzed via the Braden Q risk assessment tool for pediatric patients upon admission to determine their level of risk for developing pressure ulcers while being in the PICU
  3. Factors measured by this tool will be defined and scored via the criteria listed in Noonan, et al’s journal article (2011), Using the Braden Q Scale to Predict Pressure Ulcer Risk in Pediatric Patient
