Using Ice Around Postoperative Total Knee Incisions – Does This Make Sense?

About this study

The purpose of this study is to evaluate if there is a decrease in blood flow to the incision following application of an ice pack.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

Age > 18 years
Willing to participate in the study and competent to provide informed consent
Willing to comply with protocol procedures
Has an underlying diagnosis of osteoarthritis indicated for a total knee arthroplasty

Exclusion Criteria:

Revision hip or knee arthroplasty
Previous incisions around the knee (excluding arthroscopy portals)
An allergy to the ICG dye
