A Study to Evaluate if a Conversation Aid Will Help Patients and Clinicians in Discuss Diagnostic Testing

About this study

The purpose of this study is to determine whether a diagnostic reconciliation conversation aid can assist a shared decision making conversation between patients and clinicians to reach a consensual diagnostic plan of care and confirm that patients and clinicians have the same understanding of its goals, nature (including patient experience), and downstream consequences (including implications for further testing and treatment).

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

Patients
- Adults ≥ 18 years
- Appointment for diagnostic testing
- English speaking
Clinicians
- Clinicians who meet with patients for diagnostic testing
PAG Members
- Adults ≥ 18 years
- Member of the KER Unit PAG
- Science of Healthcare Delivery PAG

Exclusion Criteria:

Patients
- Major barriers to providing informed consent (i.e. dementia, severe hearing or visual impairment)
Clinicians
- None
