A Study to Develop a Resource (bank) of Biospecimens and Data Collected from Individuals with Liver Disease and Without Liver Disease

About this study

The purpose of this study is to facilitate discovery and development of novel biomarkers of risk and early detection, etiologic factors relating to liver disease, and novel targeted therapeutic and chemopreventive strategies for liver disease such as PSC, PBC, PLD, NAFLD, NASH, ASH, HCC, donors (non-diseased and diseased) for liver transplant or non-liver diseased subjects scheduled for surgery will serve as controls.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Age 12 and older
  • Men and women with or without liver disease 
  • Men and women having a liver transplant or liver resection
  • Control subjects who do or do not have liver disease such as donor tissue for liver transplant or having surgery for non-liver disease (ex. Bariatric surgery) will be included as controls

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Individuals who do not comprehend English (must be able to read and sign a consent form without the assistance of an interpreter or family member)
  • Individuals who are unable to sign consent (mentally challenged, those declared legally incompetent, etc) 
  • Individuals regarded as belonging to a vulnerable population such as prisoners 
  • Age <11
