A Study of King-Devick test (KDT) and Visual Contrast Sensitivity (VCS) Test Can Detect Migraine Attacks

About this study

This research study is being done to help determine if King-Devick test (KDT) and Visual Contrast Sensitivity (VCS) can detect migraine-induced cerebral function changes.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  1. Males or females 18 years of age or older

  2. A signed and dated informed consent document indicating that the subject has been informed of all pertinent aspects of the study including any known and potential risks.
  3. Subjects fulfilling ICHD-3beta criteria for episodic migraine with or without aura, or chronic migraine without daily headaches

Exclusion Criteria:


  1. Children (younger than 18 years of age)

  2. Headaches other than migraine or probable migraine
  3. Inability to provide informed consent

  4. Individuals with the following condition:
    1. Presence of medication overuse (using NSAIDs more than 15 days per month, or triptans more
than 10 days per month, or opioids more than 10 days per month, or butalbutal more than 10 days per month, or combination analgesics more than 10 days per month) 

    2. History of concussion within the past 2 years 

    3. Other neurological disease 

    4. History of intracranial surgery 

    5. Comorbid ocular conditions
