A Study to Evaluate a New Method of Recording Brain Activity During Surgery

About this study

The purpose of the study is to evaluate a new method of recording brain activity during surgery and to help determine the mechanism through which deep brain stimulation is helping patients.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

Diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease or essential tremor, a determination by the Mayo Clinic Neuromodulation Committee that deep brain stimulation is an appropriatetreatment for the patient’s condition (outside of any reference to this protocol)
Ability and willingness to provide informed consent for both the clinical surgery and this particular protocol

Exclusion Criteria:

Not fulfilling the above criteria, as well as pediatric patients, will be excluded
