A Study of Cardiac Ultrasound Obtained Prior to Surgery can Provide us with Additional Information in Patients with Severe Aortic Stenosis and Poor Left Ventricular Function

About this study

The purpose of the study is to investigate new cardiac ultrasound methods (2D- Speckle echocardiography) to evaluate myocardial mechanical properties in images obtained prior to surgery, and if this can provide us with additional prognostic information.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Patients who had surgery for severe aortic stenosis in Mayo clinic with oral consent and return a signed HIPAA authorization form will be enrolled.  

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Patients who had other valvular disease more than moderate severity such as moderate mitral regurgitation, or aortic regurgitation, history of valvular surgery or poor echo window
