EEG Study of Cortical Dynamics in Dystonia

About this study

The aim of this protocol is to design a measurement paradigm that reliably detects EEG oscillatory patterns during movement, relaxation, or imagination.  These techniques will be applied to normal controls and dystonic patients to define differences in the patterns between the two groups.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

Normal Controls

  • Aged 20-70

Dystonia Patients

  • Aged 20-70
  • Generalized or focal arm dystonia diagnosed by neurologist
  • Dominant arm involved by dystonia
  • Ability to perform simple grip and hold movements with dominant arm

Exclusion Criteria:

Normal Controls

  • Current or prior neurologic disease
  • Orthopedic conditions affecting dominant arm
  • Visual acuity of less than 20/80 or worse

Dystonia Patients

  • Other neurologic diagnosis other than dystonia
  • Orthopedic conditions affecting dominant arm
  • Visual acuity of 20/80 or worse
