Evaluation of the Live Donor Assessment Tool (LDAT) to Predict Psychosocial Outcomes among Liver and Kidney Donors

About this study

The purpose of this study is to determine if the Living Donor Assessment Tool (LDAT) is an effective tool to improve the psychosocial evaluation of potential live kidney and liver donors. The LDAT was developed by the living donation team at the Zweig Family Center for Living Donation at the Mount Sinai Recanati/Miller Transplantation Institute. It assesses important areas of the evaluation process such as motivation (reason) for donation, knowledge of living donation, support, relationship to organ recipient, feelings about donation, stability in life and psychiatric and addiction history and provides a score that can be used to measure the risks and/or the appropriateness of a live organ donor candidate.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion and Exclusion Criteria:

All potential live donors who undergo a live donor psychosocial evaluation utilizing the LDAT will be eligible to be included in the study.

Subjects must be English live organ donor candidates who present for the donor evaluation and see the transplant coordinator, physician, and complete a psychosocial evaluation.

Liver donors who donate for the reason of acute liver failure in an emergent situation will be excluded.
