About this study

The purpose of this study is to collect adult human blood, cerebrospinal fluid, brain, and spine tissues/fluids at time of surgery in order to conduct future studies of the cellular mechanisms of tissue invasion utilized by brain and spine tumors of the central nervous system (CNS).

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Patients who have had the diagnosis of:
    • a brain or spine tumor;
    • epilepsy;
    • degenerative disc disease or vascular lesions, diease, or disorders requiring surgical intervention from the participating neurosurgeons on the study.
  • All untreated patients ages 16 and older who will undergo brain or spine tumor surgery or spinal surgery for disc degeneration or disc herniation.
  • Women and minorities

Exclusion Criteria: 

  • All untreated patients under 16 years of age.
  • There is no exclusion due to race or sex.
