Methylation Profiling of Normal Lower Gynecological Tract Tissues

About this study

The goal of this study is to identify methylation patterns in benign lower gynecologic tract tissues by performing global methylation analyses of benign cervico-vaginal squamous tissue. It will also determine methylation pattern for the cervico-vaginal environment through global methylation analyses of cervico-vaginal cytologic scrapings and brushings.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion criteria:

  • Women will be ≥18 years of age and undergoing a hysterectomy for benign indication.
  • Able to consent to the study procedures

Exclusion criteria:

  • Current cervical, vaginal or vulvar dysplasia
  • Condylomata
  • Prior pelvic radiation
  • Prior vulvar, vaginal, cervical, uterine, or ovarian/tubal cancer
  • Complete procidentia
  • Lichen planus
  • Known Lynch syndrome, BRCA1/2, or other defined genetic predisposition for gynecologic cancer
