A Study of Disease Risk Caused by Tumor Particles Getting into the Blood from Endoscopic Ultrasound Guided Fine Needle Aspiration

About this study

The purpose of this study is to assess the risk for cancer spread caused by the leaking of tumor particles into the blood from the biopsy procedure endoscopic ultrasound guided fine needle aspiration.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria

  • Patient referred for Endoscopic ultrasound guided biopsy of a gastrointestinal cancer as part of their standard clinical care
  • Lesion confirm by endosonographer that requires EUS guided biopsy

 

Exclusion Criteria 

  • Inability to provide informed consent
  • Unavailability for follow-up (patients or family members unavailable for or disagreeable to phone follow-up)
  • Anemia (Hemoglobin < 12.4 gm/dl for males and < 11.6 gm/dl for females)
  • Pregnancy
  • < 18 years of age
