The Role of Microbiota in the Pathogenesis of Pouchitis

About this study

The purpose of this study is to learn more about the bacteria that live in the small and large intestine and the role that these bacteria play in causing inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion criteria:

A patient may be considered for study participation if all of the following apply:

Age greater than or equal to 18 years
Confirmed diagnosis of ulcerative colitis or familial adenomatous polyposis
Subjects who have undergone proctocolectomy with ileal pouch anal anastomosis and are scheduled for, or have had takedown of ileostomy at any time
The patient is willing and able to sign the written, informed consent document

Exclusion criteria:

Patients will be excluded from the study if one or more of the following apply:

Female patients who are pregnant
The patient appears to be uncooperative or not dependable for any reason
Patients unable to give informed consent
