Education

Mayo Clinic Military Medicine educates military service members with world-class faculty and cutting-edge modeling and simulation tools. Mayo Clinic in Arizona is the main education location, but trainings also are conducted at Mayo Clinic's campuses in Florida and Minnesota.

Continuing medical education

The Mayo Clinic Military Medicine Program offers continuing medical education courses for contracted government entities and the special operations community. These courses are designed for forces involved in various types of missions ranging from combat and counterterrorism operations to hostage rescue and humanitarian aid. The educational offerings support operations conducted by specially trained, equipped and organized units against strategic or tactical targets in pursuit of national military, political, economic or psychological objectives.

Current offerings enroll trainees by invitation only.

Community outreach

Mayo Clinic Military Medicine partners with local communities and law enforcement agencies to offer training events for first responders, law enforcement officers and the public.

K-9 trauma training

The Mayo Clinic Military Medicine Program works with law enforcement agencies to provide training in canine law enforcement tactics and care.

In Arizona, Military Medicine works with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) to provide canine tactical emergency casualty care training. MCSO hosts an annual K-9 high-risk deployment seminar for Arizona law enforcement K-9 associations. Every year, Military Medicine and Mayo Clinic partner with MCSO to develop K-9 trauma scenarios incorporating canine medical training into advanced-level scenarios. The trainings use Mayo Clinic's high-fidelity K-9 simulator, "Diesel," which reproduces potential real-life reactions of injured dogs. More than 30 teams from law enforcement departments in the Phoenix area have participated in this training.

In Florida and Minnesota, the Military Medicine Program partners with local law enforcement to train handlers in the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office and the Saint Paul Police Department. This free training is led by Military Medicine education fellows. The handlers learn lifesaving emergency care for their dogs. Military Medicine enhances this training with our "Diesel" K-9 simulator.
