Education and Training

Dr. Wang's Pharmacogenomics and Drug Targets Laboratory offers valuable learning opportunities for research students and fellows.

Predoctoral

The lab is considering applications from students through several Mayo Clinic programs:

Each year, through a highly competitive selection process, students are admitted to Ph.D. or M.D.-Ph.D. programs at Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.

Selected students pursue research in one of the seven academic specializations available:

  • Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
  • Biomedical Engineering and Physiology
  • Clinical Translational Science
  • Immunology
  • Molecular Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics
  • Neurobiology of the Disease
  • Virology and Gene Therapy

Students have exceptional flexibility to choose a research mentor. Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences provides stipends and full-tuition scholarships for all Ph.D. and M.D.-Ph.D. students.

Candidates interested in Ph.D. and M.D.-Ph.D. programs should pay close attention to application deadlines and apply through the appropriate Mayo Clinic website.

Postdocs

The laboratory's research is focused on the pharmacogenomics of drug targets, especially those antineoplastic agents. Studies conducted include the use of high-throughput sequencing of genes that might influence drug response, functional genomics, in-depth mechanistic studies of the functional effects of DNA sequence variation, and translational studies of the implications of biomarkers for individual differences in drug response and for the selection of appropriate treatment for the individual patient.

Requirements for a postdoctoral position include a Ph.D. or M.D. degree with significant past laboratory research experience with an emphasis on the techniques of molecular genomics.

Training grant positions

Dr. Wang is the principal investigator for Mayo Clinic's National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded T32 Clinical Pharmacology Training Program in which, through a competitive application process, candidates with M.D. or M.D.-Ph.D degrees would receive an additional two years of research training in clinical pharmacology and will be eligible for clinical pharmacology board certification.

Prospective fellows should email a curriculum vitae and bibliography, summary of past accomplishments, and three reference letters to:
