Unmatched Medical Student Program

The Division of Orthopedic Surgery Research offers unmatched medical students a one-year unpaid research fellowship that starts in the summer of 2024.

The Unmatched Medical Student Program is an opportunity to strengthen your curriculum vitae (CV) for the increasingly competitive Orthopedic Surgery Match. Research trainees in this program have an opportunity to train under consultant mentors in the Division of Orthopedic Surgery Research. Research focus areas may include hip and knee; shoulder and elbow; foot and ankle; spine; hand; pediatrics; trauma; sports medicine; and oncology.

Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Application process

Applications for the 2024-2025 cycle of the Unmatched Medical Student Program will be accepted from March 15, 2024, until 5 p.m. CST on April 12, 2024.

Prepare all your application materials in advance. You're responsible for ensuring that all application materials are complete at the time of submission. The application process must be completed in one session. The selection committee won't review incomplete applications.

Application requirements and materials:

  • Completion of your fourth year of medical school.
  • CV.
  • Board scores step 1 and step 2.
  • Up to three letters of recommendation.
  • Personal statement.
  • Medical school performance evaluation or equivalent.
