  • Highly Efficient MRI Pulse Sequences for High Resolution Physiological and Functional Brain Imaging (NIH R44MH129278) Rochester, Minn.

    Hypothesis: Novel MRI pulse sequences developed at AMRIT for high resolution functional imaging will provide greater sensitivity for activation detection and less susceptibility to effects of neurovascular uncoupling than standard BOLD fMRI pulse sequences

     

    Objectives:

    1. To compare high resolution advanced MRI pulse sequences for functional imaging (functional VASO, ASL) to conventional BOLD fMRI pulse sequence for assessment of sensitivity for detection of language cortical activation at 3T
    2. 1) To compare high resolution advanced MRI pulse sequences for functional imaging (functional VASO, ASL) to conventional BOLD fMRI pulse sequence for assessment of sensitivity for detection of language cortical activation at 7T
    3. To determine whether such novel MRI pulse sequences will be less susceptible to the effects of neurovascular uncoupling and thus capable of providing more reliable activation maps in the setting of brain tumors and other resectable brain lesions
