إن Mayo Clinic هي مؤسسة رائدة في التقدُّمات المُحرَزة في مجال جراحة الجنين، حيث تسمح بالتدخُّل المبكر عند تشخيص العيوب الخِلْقية.

ويتمثَّل أحد الأمثلة الرئيسية على ذلك في وجود تجربة سريرية لجراحة ما قبل الولادة لتعزيز نمو الرئة قبل ولادة الأطفال. يعاني هؤلاء الأجنة من اضطراب مهدِّد للحياة يُطلَق عليه نقص التنسج الرئوي. تحدث هذه الحالة بسبب الفتق الحجابي الخِلْقي وكون رئتَي الجنين صغيرتين جدًّا بصورة تُصعِّب من تنفُّسهم بمفردهم. ويتمثَّل الهدف من ذلك في تطوير نُهُج تجديدية لتحسين تطوُّر عمليات الرئة ونتائجها.
