A Study to Investigate Biomarkers for Phenotyping of Neurodegenerative Disorders

About this study

The primary purpose of this study is to create a Mayo Clinic repository for  neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson’s disease (PD), Parkinson’s disease dementia and dementia with Lewy bodies (PDD/DLB), multiple system atrophy (MSA), progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), cortico-basal degeneration (CBD), and other even rarer forms of neurodegeneration.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria: 

  • Males and females over the age of 18 years
  • Able to understand the purpose and risks of the study and to provide signed and dated informed consent.
  • Diagnosed with a neurodegenerative disorder including PD, PDD/DLB, MSA, PSP, CBD, and other rare conditions, or are serving as a control (those who have no known medical or family history of inherited neurodegenerative diseases).

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Allergy to study-related materials including lidocaine or iodine. We will make all efforts to utilize alternative means when obtaining specimens.
  • Pregnant subjects will not be included in the study.
  • Subjects not willing or having contraindications to having a Lumbar Puncture.
