A Study to Evaluate Whether or Not Extracellular Counts and Content Can Diagnose Alcoholic Hepatitis

About this study

The purpose of this study is to determine if extracellular (EV) counts and content can differentiate Alcoholic Hepatitis (AH) from alcoholic liver disease as well as end stage liver disease due to other causes.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Age >21 year old; both male or female.
  • MELD score 10 or higher.
  • Patients undergoing regular testing for liver disease including, but not limited to, pre-transplant evaluation, follow-up visits, in-patient testing, etc.

Exclusion Criteria: 

  • Potential subjects with organ failure (as defined by hepatic encephalopathy >stage 3; need for ventilator or vasopressor support; renal replacement therapy or creatinine >2.5).
  • Current or previous history of hepatocellular carcinoma or other malignancy.
  • MELD score <10.
  • Inability to give written informed consent.
  • Pregnant females or other at-risk population.
