Dental Prophylaxis for the Prevention of Infective Endocarditis

About this study

The purpose of this study is to determine the percentage of patients at moderate risk for infective endocarditis (IE) who are receiving antibiotic prophylaxis post-2007 in Olmsted County, Minnesota.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Adults (age 18 or older) with moderate-risk cardiac conditions
  • Residing in Olmsted County, MN between January 1, 2003 to December 31, 2018.
  • REP database participation.
  • Patients must provide consent form and release of information form to obtain dental records from their dental provider/office.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Patients under the age of 18.
  • Patients who reside outside of Olmsted County, MN
  • High-risk and Low-risk cardiac conditions for IE
